A total of thirteen teams from across the state have applied to participate in the GAME.EUS video game accelerator campus, which will take place next July in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Among the video game projects submitted, three of them by Basque creators, the top five proposals will be selected to be part of this intensive five-week program, which, in this edition, expands the platforms and business models to be developed by the participating teams.

Of the thirteen aspiring teams, four are from Catalonia, three from Madrid, three from the Basque Country, two from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and one from Zaragoza. Specifically, of the Basque projects, two belong to developers from Vitoria-Gasteiz and one from Barakaldo.

GAME.EUS transforms four years of experience of F2P Campus into a determined commitment to creating and retaining local talent and promoting this sector in the Basque Country. The initiative, promoted by the Provincial Council of Álava and the Basque Government under the direction of the EUNEIZ Foundation, aims to prepare teams of developers from the Basque Country who have a sufficiently advanced video game to participate in Gamescom, the largest and most important industry fair in Europe.

“There is a very high level in the proposals submitted, making the starting point promising regarding the goals set for this accelerator campus. Adding to this, three of the thirteen video game projects belong to Basque developers, we can be satisfied to see that the sector in the Basque Country has the potential to become a talent attraction and wealth generation hub,” says David Darnés, director of this program, funded by the Provincial Council of Álava and the Department of Culture of the Basque Government, coordinated by BIC Araba, and sponsored by the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council and the EUNEIZ University.

GAME.EUS arises from the need to support small indie developer teams as a fundamental strategy to strengthen the video game industry in the Basque Country. The program, which will feature individual mentoring by national and international industry experts, will be held for the third consecutive year at the University of Vitoria-Gasteiz EUNEIZ from July 1st to August 1st. During the five weeks of the program, teams will receive training and personalized advice aimed at professionalizing their production process, instilling a business mindset, helping them obtain funding and/or publishing, and encouraging the legal establishment of video game studios in the Basque Country.

The campus will culminate with a Demo Day on August 1st, as a preliminary step to the opportunity to showcase their work at Gamescom, where they can establish key contacts and explore new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
