Interview with Iván Lorenzo, VYNE HR founder

How did the idea for VYNE HR come about?

VYNE HR was born after five years working in consultancy at a multinational company in the sector and, before that, several different stages within human resources. Throughout that journey, I realized that things could be done much better and far more efficiently. With new technologies, automation, AI, and a team of experienced consultants, it was possible to offer something completely different from what existed in the market.

What problem did you identify in the HR field that led you to create the startup?

Basically four: inefficient processes, disproportionate costs, a level of service quality that in many cases leaves much to be desired, and a huge shortage of talent on both sides of the market. On top of that, there is a real lack of attention to both clients and candidates, who often get stuck halfway through endless processes. We wanted to be a real solution, not just another platform.

What is VYNE HR and what value proposition does it offer? What differentiates VYNE HR from other HR tech tools on the market?

VYNE HR combines a high level of expertise in recruiting middle management and executive profiles with a technological system that works 24/7 for our clients. We have built an architecture of AI agents and semantic search that places us at the forefront of what the sector demands today. The difference lies not only in the technology, but in combining it with deep knowledge of business and talent.

Could you share a use case or practical example of how your technology helps?

We have a recent case that illustrates this well. A client had spent ten months working with multinational consulting firms trying to fill two very similar positions, without success. When they trusted us, we filled one role in 12 days and the other in 21. The difference was not luck; it was the combination of our expertise and the ability of our technology to continuously identify and qualify talent. Ultimately, any company that needs a qualified profile, middle manager or executive, or any profile where external support may be needed, can rely on us.

How has the HR sector evolved in recent years?

It is changing dramatically. There are ATS platforms, traditional consulting firms, process management services, companies that support recruiters, and large corporations building internal systems. At the same time, there is a huge shortage of talent and professionals capable of interpreting it properly. Moreover, this issue is expected to become even more critical in the coming years. There is also a perception that AI will solve everything, but that is not the case: for me, the concept of human in the loop is non-negotiable. Technology accelerates processes, but decisions must always involve people.

What has been the biggest challenge since creating VYNE?

Balancing the excitement of building something from scratch with the realities of day-to-day work, expectations, and the need to grow the company. At the beginning, you are everything: product, sales, operations, administration… and you must be ready for that level of effort. That balance between dreaming big and executing small tasks every day is the real challenge.

What lessons would you highlight from your entrepreneurial journey so far?

Above all, discovering the level of perseverance and sacrifice you are capable of, something you only truly understand when you embark on a journey like this. It is a beautiful path: you are driving something that comes from your own ideas and those of your team, and you see it grow and take shape. It is tough, but truly rewarding.

How do you manage uncertainty in your day-to-day life as an entrepreneur?

Honestly, you have to learn to live with it. In a way, you never fully get used to it, but I would say it is a fundamental part of the journey. You never know exactly how your product will fit in the market, with clients, candidates, or institutions… you move forward without knowing exactly what will happen. Although it can be exhausting, it also brings a sense of adrenaline, and that can be exciting.

How has BIC Araba supported the development of VYNE HR? Would you recommend other startups join this ecosystem? Why?

They have supported us enormously. In terms of structure, ideas, organization, and guidance, they have been key from day one. Additionally, very concrete support such as the Hekintzaile program or participation in 4YFN has been fundamental for us. I would recommend it without hesitation: when you start a business, you need an ecosystem that pushes you forward, and BIC Araba plays that role.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about launching their own startup?

Do it, without hesitation. If you truly believe in your idea and feel passionate about what you want to build, go for it. There will always be doubts and fears, but passion and conviction are what sustain you when things become difficult.

Quick-fire round

A movie about entrepreneurship you recommend
The Founder and The Social Network. Both show very well the positive side and the hard side of building something from scratch.

A brand or company that inspires you
Tesla, for its ability to reinvent a sector that seemed closed; and Factorial, because it shows that it is possible to build a global HR tech reference from Spain.

A phrase that motivates you in your work
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” It perfectly summarizes the mindset I try to have every morning.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would it be?
Steve Jobs. I am fascinated by how he combined technology, design, and business vision, and I would love to understand how he made his most difficult decisions.

If you could go back in time, would you start a business again?
Without a doubt. And I would do it earlier. It is extremely challenging, but I have never learned so much or felt that my work had such a strong sense of purpose.

Thank you for your time, Iván!
